I was invited to attend the launch of Virgin Voyages’ 4th ship — Brilliant Lady — in New York City. Believe it or not, this was my very first time stepping onboard a Virgin ship.

When Virgin Voyages first launched in 2021, I didn’t think it was for me. It seemed like more of a “party ship” — something geared toward 20- and 30-somethings dancing around the pool all night. As someone now in my 50s (and a longtime cruiser since my first sailing at 18 years old), I figured Virgin Voyages wasn’t for my demographic.

But over the last few years, I kept hearing rave reviews — not just from younger travelers, but from people my age, solo cruisers, and group travelers. I've booked clients on Virgin cruises through my role as a Fora travel advisor, and they loved it so much that many are already sailing again. That’s when I started to pay closer attention.

So, when the invitation came to explore Brilliant Lady in New York City, I knew I had to go. It was finally time for me to see what the buzz was all about — and let me tell you, this ship impressed me.

A few things stood out right away: the spacious outdoor decks and lounge areas (plenty of places to spread out or connect with friends), The Sip — a sophisticated lounge where I enjoyed a refreshing glass of sparkling wine. And, let’s talk about the incredible spa! There are plunge pools, warm marble stone loungers, huge saunas and treatments like acupuncture available.

As far as the culinary offerings go, there is truly something for everyone, with cuisines from all over the world. I half-joked that if they ever add a jerk chicken stand, I’ll never get off the ship! lol

On top of all that, Virgin cruise ships are boutique-sized — not mega-ships, but not too small either. They go to destinations that other lines often overlook, and the pricing includes Wi-Fi, gratuities, and soda that most other lines charge extra for. Brilliant Lady builds on all of this while also charting exciting new territories for Virgin.
